So recently I've become a little bit marble obsessed - I want it on everything! Especially since seeing syrup marbled meringues (!) at my work place (check them out, a beautiful independent deli shop, Taste of the Country, instagram @tasteofthecountry) I've wanted to try it myself.
After lots of video and blog searches I came across lots of self taught methods as well as which marbling kits work best. I tried them both!
The actual marbling kit tricky and time consuming; mixing various solutions and waiting for things to soak. The results were pretty great! Vibrant colours and clear intricate shapes, that I'd amazingly created myself! I really enjoyed something more hands on, and after playing around with tools and paper sizes got some quite fun results.
However, I personally found it a bit of a faff. SO, I found some quick at-home methods, using spray paint! I had a lot of different paint colours, including metallics (yay!) in the garage and had a go! Straight onto water, using the can's pressure to manipulate the paint pattern, I managed to create some amazing natural looking marbled effects. The paper picks up exactly what's sat on top of the water, so it's super quick to dry and create a piece. I loved the process and pieces!

After falling in love with everything marbled, I then found book binding!
I had taken a couple of workshops at uni; learning more simple methods to hand bind, such as Japanese stab stitch and Saddle stitch. I got really into the making process finding it very therapeutic, and amazed myself with the beautiful book that I had hand bound from scratch. It's quite a personal practice and outcome: I really loved my little creations.
I caught the creative bug after marbling, and felt that the prints naturally lent themselves as interesting books covers! I got together various tools and papers, and got creating; making hardcover hand stitched books, that are perfect as scrapbooks, sketchbooks, even presents for friends or events.
