Below are my current favourite outcomes/illustrations for the unit so far. Following the theme of the Mediterranean - and its culture and landscape - I have begun to pick up on its typical warm bright palettes, and finding the abstract forms within the landscapes. I have begun to find and illustrate the small narrative-like suggestions of daily- and holiday life within the areas of the Med. I have also started to translate these into risograph prints, and imitate a similar doted texture within a digital technique that I feel works well, bringing an extra quality to the print.
In terms of physical outcome, I am aiming for an illustrative approach towards surface design and product. Looking at the relation between functionality and decorative [illustration] to reflect the physical elements of culture and landscape. By illustrating the landscape etc., -- in an abstract, pattern like form -- onto functional products (ie. textile rugs, beach mats) I am reflecting and instigating a culture, in a decorative enjoyable method. Below are some rough mock up sketches of an initial idea towards this thinking.
For example, a decorated dinner table cloth to reflect the importance of dining together with family; Or an abstract beach mat to show your surrounding environment. Both, that can also be hung as their own piece.
