I've just started back at uni after a really long summer at home working, and it feels a lot more real this time - it's starting to count towards my grade! I've been living in Bournemouth for two years now, after completing a year's Foundation Diploma and the first year into my BA (Hons) degree in Illustration. Being at the Arts Uni here is great; everyone is creatively led, with plenty of fueled inspiration and enthusiasm to go around!
To kick start our academic year and to get back into the studying mind set, we were asked by our tutors to write our own little manifesto! Using last year as a reflection, I bullet pointed some personal aims and intentions to plan out my year..
To become more comfortable in a personal "style" - don't be scared to push the boundaries, for instance with abstract pattern work; Work to something that is my own and that I enjoy, but that also fulfills the brief and illustrates my practice and personality. I love my expressive paintings and need to navigate this into context,
Spend more time observational drawing - and to not worry about "getting it wrong"! Be quicker and more free; Just go for it!
For my final outcomes to look more polished - professionalism! Industry standard! I wasn't totally happen with my last final projects' piece: I know that the final outcome is sometimes my downfall, and that I need to not only spend more time constructing and planning it, but to also make sure it reflects the rest of my body of work and its strength,
Research more extra curricula/short courses and take part in them - can help future prospects as well as current practice; I looked into a textile/screen print short course to attend this academic year, to further my interest and career ambitions into pattern design, and definitely want to look further into this with the possibility of attending!
